Le consortium Globeleq va construire d’importants projets d’énergie renouvelable en Afrique du Sud

LONDRES et LE CAP, Afrique du Sud, 3 novembre 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Globeleq, société énergétique indépendante de premier plan d’Afrique et partenaire majoritaire du Consortium Ikamva, a été sélectionné pour contribuer à la réalisation de plus de projets éoliens et solaires propres et renouvelables dans le pays.

Les six projets éoliens et les six projets solaires photovoltaïques représenteront une capacité de production totale de 1 274 MW. Ils viennent s’ajouter aux neuf actifs éoliens et solaires détenus et exploités majoritairement par Globeleq en Afrique, avec une une capacité totale de 450 MW. Globeleq et ses partenaires du consortium Ikamva ont été désignés par le ministère sud-africain des Ressources minérales et de l’Énergie (DMRE) comme soumissionnaire privilégié pour 12 des 25 projets retenus dans le cadre du 5e appel d’offres du programme d’approvisionnement des producteurs indépendants d’énergie renouvelable (REIPPPP) d’Afrique du Sud.

Outre Globeleq, le consortium Ikamva comprend Mainstream Renewable Power, Africa Rainbow Energy & Power (AREP) et H1 Holdings et est détenu à plus de 45 % par des Noirs. Le ministère des Ressources minérales et de l’Energie a indiqué que l’ensemble des 25 projets injectera un total d’environ 50 milliards de rands dans l’économie grâce aux investissements du secteur privé et créera plus de 13 000 emplois.

Les projets attribués comprennent trois projets éoliens dans le Cap Nord, deux projets éoliens dans le Cap Ouest et le premier projet éolien dans la province du KwaZulu-Natal. Les projets solaires sont tous situés dans la province de l’État libre, où aucun projet d’énergie renouvelable n’a encore été construit dans le cadre du programme REIPPP.

SA distributes close to 160 000 COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday

South Africa administered 158 787 COVID-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours, bringing the total doses to 22 799 682.

The Department of Health’s latest data shows that of the jabs administered on Wednesday, 145 828 were given to adults, while 12 959 were received by children aged between 12 and 17.

In addition, the country is now home to 12 620 892 or 31.4% fully vaccinated adults out of the 40 million government is targeting.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), recorded 344 new COVID-19 infections, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 922 735.

The majority of new cases were logged in Gauteng after 140 people were confirmed to have contracted the virus.

In addition, 44 were reported in the Western Cape, 41 in KwaZulu-Natal, 35 in Free State, 28 in the North West and 22 in the Eastern Cape, while the rest of the provinces recorded less than 20 cases each.

“This increase represents a 1.3% positivity rate,” the NICD explained, adding that the seven-day moving average daily number of cases have decreased.

Meanwhile, a further 23 patients succumbed to the respiratory disease, which means the death toll now stands at 89 220 to date.

The NICD said the hospital admission has increased by 37.

The information is based on the 18 606 274 tests, of which 27 392 were conducted since the last reporting cycle.

The institute is once again encouraging people to adhere to preventative measures to help limit the risk of contracting and spreading the virus.

This includes vaccinating, wearing a mask, avoiding unnecessary gatherings, keeping a social distance of one metre and washing hands regularly.

Global view

From 25 to 31 October 2021, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recorded a slight upward trend of a 3% increase in new weekly cases, with just over three million infections reported.

Apart from the European region, which reported a 6% peak in new weekly cases, other regions registered declines or stable trends.

The biggest drop was reported in the Eastern Mediterranean region (12%), followed by South-East Asia and African regions (both 9%).

In addition, the new weekly deaths went up by 8% as compared with the previous week, with over 50 000 new fatalities.

These figures were mainly driven by the South-East Asia region, which reported the largest increase (50%), followed by the European region (12%) and the Western Pacific region (10%).

As of 31 October, the WHO said there were over 246 million confirmed cases and nearly five million deaths have been reported.

The highest numbers of new cases were reported from the United States (528 455 new cases, 7% increase), the United Kingdom (285 028 new cases, 14% decrease), Russia (272 147 new cases, 9% increase), Turkey (182 027 new cases, 8% decrease), and Ukraine (152 897 new cases, 14% increase).

In Africa, the highest numbers of new cases were reported from Ethiopia (3 313 new cases, a 14% increase), South Africa (2 554 new cases, a 19% decrease), and Cameroon (2 210 new cases, a 17% increase).

Anti-Gang Unit detective arrested for corruption

WESTERN CAPE – A Sergeant (46) attached to Anti-Gang Unit is scheduled to make his court appearance in Wynberg Magistrate’s court tomorrow on a charge of corruption following his arrest earlier today by members of the Anti-Corruption Unit.

He was arrested after information was received that he requested a sum of money to arrange that a suspect in a murder case which he is investigating is released on bail.

An undercover operation was held and the money was handed over to him. He was arrested at Wynberg court after the money was found in his possession.

Corruption amongst our ranks will be fought with all our might, as we will not allow a few bad apples to tarnish the good name of the SAPS. Police arrest three suspects for farm attack, house robbery and theft of a motor vehicle

GAUTENG – Gauteng police on Thursday, 04 November 2021 at about 00:30 attended a complaint about eight unknown males who gained entry at a plot in Leeufontein, Bronkhorstspruit and woke the victim up with a torch light in her eyes.

The suspects ransacked the house looking for valuables. The 84-year-old woman was dragged and her hands and feet burnt with the blow torch, she was left in a locked bathroom. Her employee was also tied up at the back of the house and the suspects drove away with the victim’s Ford ranger bakkie, household possessions and cash.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical assistance.

The intelligence team, Bronkhorstspruit Detective, K9 and Tshwane District Trio task team went out to trace the suspects, and on the same day at around 09:35 managed to arrest three suspects, two males and a female. During the arrest the suspected stolen properties were recovered in Rethabiseng Ext 5, Bronkhorstspruit.

A Ford Ranger bakkie was recovered in Ekangala policing precincts abandoned.

Man found guilty for attempted murder and robbery, sentenced to twelve years imprisonment

NORTHERN CAPE – The Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Management applauded Sergeant Richard Maekeco for his exceptional investigative work, which resulted in the imprisonment of Olebogeng Kabisa Akende. On Friday, 29 October 2021 the Kuruman Regional Court found Akende guilty and sentenced him to 12 years direct imprisonment on two charges; attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. During the court proceeding the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Richard Maekeco, attached to the Kimberley Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), revealed that the accused was in company of other two suspects when they robbed the driver of a white Volkswagen Polo of his vehicle at gunpoint. The accused and his accomplices hitched hiked the driver of the VW Polo on 28 October 2020 on the Kuruman Main Road.

The driver pulled over and gave them a lift, along the way the three drew a firearm and knife and dropped off the driver and sped off with the vehicle. The driver reported the incident to the police in Kuruman. The police immediately dispatched a look out for the hijacked vehicle, with full description. The vehicle matching the description was spotted in the neighbourhood in Kuruman.

A high speed chase ensued and shots were exchanged between the police and the accused. Among the accused there was a female who was also an accomplice. Later during the investigation the other male accused was released as he could not be linked to the case.

Sergeant Richard successfully opposed bail against Akende and the female accused was released on bail.

However she absconded court attendance, subsequent to her release on bail. The Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Management commended the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Department of Justice (DoJ) for ensuring that the accused is removed from the society.

President wishes Hindu community a blessed Deepavali

President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his warm wishes to South Africa’s Hindu community for their observance of the religious festival of Deepavali, known as the Festival of Lights.

The President said that as an occasion of religious devotion and cultural expression, Diwali is a rich and enriching feature of the nation’s valued and enviable diversity.

“It is also an occasion on which we acknowledge the ties of history that bind our nation to other parts of the world. South Africa’s Hindu community makes a significant contribution to the spiritual, ethical, economic and cultural life of our nation through the values of honesty, patience and compassion,” he said.

President Ramaphosa said that these are values and moral duties of which society is in great need, as we seek to rebuild the country’s economy and overcome poverty, unemployment and inequality.

“At the dawn of the Hindu New Year, this is not only a time for reflection and for a fresh commitment among Hindu devotees but an opportunity for all of us to play our part in moral and ethical renewal in our country and in reaching out to the most vulnerable among us,” the President said.

The President wishes the Hindu community a period of blessed spiritual and social fellowship within the provisions of the COVID-19 health regulations.
