Details emerging is that Nomakula “Kuli” Roberts, an actress and TV personality, died on the set of her upcoming new show Heavy Hitter’s on Wednesday, February 9th at 22:00. On the show, Roberts was supposed to appear alongside Metro FM’s Naked DJ. Two men died after vehicle over turned

SAPS Kabega Park detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a collision early this morning, on Old Cape Road near the St Albans area.

It is alleged that at approximately 04:29 a resident in the area heard something and he suspected that is could be related to an accident. Upon following up, a white Mitshubishi Lancer was found in the bushes. No other vehicle involved, it is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned. The driver and the passenger died on the scene. At this stage the deceased is unknown and the names will only be released ones the next of kin is traced.

The investigation is ongoing.

SAPS detectives on the hunt for escapees

MOUNT FRERE – Eastern Cape police are on the hunt for three (3) awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from Mount Frere Court cells on Friday the 11th February 2022 in the Alfred Nzo District.

Preliminary investigation indicates that police were bringing the prisoners from the court back to the cells when six (6) prisoners escaped. Three of the escapees have since been re-arrested, whilst three (3) others are still on the run. The outstanding escapees are Ncukana Mandla aged 31 originally from Qumbu. He was arrested for Business Robbery, Luvalo Mongi aged 22 from Mt Frere. He was arrested for Malicious Injury to Property and carjacking and Ngxaka Ntsikelelo aged 34 from Mt Frere. He was arrested for Business Burglary. During the struggle with prisoners, one female police officer sustained injuries and was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by a team of investigators assembled immediately after the incident by SAPS management. Meanwhile, cases of escaping from lawful custody have been opened against the escapees and an internal investigation will also be conducted to establish how the incident occurred. The members of the community are requested not to attempt to arrest the escapees but alert the police should they identify one of them. The prisoners are believed to be very dangerous to the society as they have committed serious crimes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is requested to kindly inform the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10 111. All information will be treated with strictest confidentiality.

Police seek identity of deceased person

SAPS Gelvandale detectives are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying a person whose charred body was found on Friday, 11 February 2022.

According to police information, at about 17:20, two boys who were in the bushes between the Oceanview and Openview areas near Malabar stumbled on the burning body of an unknown adult male. When police arrived, the bush was still smouldering.

At this stage, the circumstances surrounding the incident is unknown and police have opened an inquest pending further investigation. The race and age of the person is unknown due to his body being completely burned.

Two suspects arrested for possession of presumably stolen motor vehicle and burglary

On Saturday 12 February 2022 at about 09:00 the off-duty member of Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein received information about a suspicious vehicle seen in Bloemside 2 area. The Sergeant quickly mobilised the members that were on duty and on arrival they followed up the information.

The team arrived where the vehicle was standing and preliminary investigation started. The vehicle was tested and it was not reported stolen. It did not have the registration numbers and the battery was also taken off. Whilst the police were busy the 28 year old African male arrived and he gave the police false information regarding the vehicle ownership.

Further investigation led the police to a house in Segupi Street, Batho Location. Two sets of registration number plates were found at the house. The suspect was questioned and he gave the police more information to follow.

The police the followed this additional information to Warren Street in Erlichpark where the other 28-year-old housebreaking and theft suspect was arrested. The team was also able to recover a Samsung Microwave oven which was stolen in Groenderoot Street and was already sold by the two suspects in Bloemfontein Central Business District.

The two 28-year-old suspects were arrested and two cases; one of possession of suspected stolen vehicle in Bloemspruit Police Station and the other of housebreaking and theft in Mangaung Police Station were opened. The suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Monday 14 February 2022.

Murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition suspects to appear in court

NORTH WEST – Four suspects aged between 28 and 35 are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 February 2022, on charges of murder as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects were arrested on Friday, 11 February 2022, along the N4 road by members of the Brits Trio Task Team. That was after the team members made a follow up on a tip-off, then cornered the suspects after a car chase. The suspects were held in connection with a murder of a 36-year-old man at Sgandaff Section, Majakaneng near Brits. It is alleged that four males driving in a white Toyota Etios arrived at the man’s place and found him outside washing clothes. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the man who was found with gunshot wounds on the head and leg, was certified dead at the scene.

The police seized the suspects’ white Toyota Etios, two firearm with serial numbers filed off, 24 ammunition and two cell phones.

The motive of the incident is yet to be determined and investigation into the matter continues.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the members for their hard work that led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators to ensure that they account for the alleged murder.
