Post office on collection of chronic clinic medication

Collect your chronic clinic meds from the Post Office

Patients of government clinics can now choose to receive their chronic medication at a convenient Post Office instead of collecting it from their clinic. This collection service is available in all provinces, except the Western Cape, at 342 post offices.

The service is aimed at patients who live or work closer to one of these post offices than a Government clinic. Post Offices are open until 17:00 on weekdays and Saturday mornings, allowing much longer hours for collecting medication.

According to the Post Office, queues at its outlets have vastly reduced since the collection point for SRD grants was moved to supermarkets. Medication can now be collected very quickly and stress-free.

Patients of government clinics who would like to collect their medication from their local post office, should arrange it with their clinic. The Department of Health sends the patient an SMS when the medication is ready for collection and patients have 14 days to collect it before the medication is returned to the Department of Health.

Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment commemorates World Environment Day in Durban, 5 Jun

South Africa commemorates World Environment Day 2022

On 5 June 2022, South Africa will join other nations in commemorating the World Environment Day 2022. This year, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), in partnership with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and eThekwini Municipality will commemorate the day in Durban, KwaZulu Natal.

WED is the biggest international day for the environment awareness. Led by UNEP and held annually since 1974, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet.

This year, World Environment Day, will be held under the campaign slogan “Only One Earth”, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. 2022 is a historic milestone for the global environmental community. It marks 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, widely seen as the first international meeting on the environment.

The world is facing three major environmental crises: climate change, biodiversity and nature loss as well as waste pollution. This is driven by human activity and unsustainable patterns of consumption and production. The world’s most vulnerable communities are often the worst impacted by the environmental crises.

The recent torrential rains and deadly floods experienced in KwaZulu-Natal are evidence of the devastating impact the environmental crises have on humanity, our economies and our natural world and a stark reminder of the urgent action needed.

An environmental awareness walk from Sun Coast Beach to Blue Lagoon will precede the formal event at 07:30 on Sunday morning.

Members of the media are invited to attend the commemoration event as per the details below:
