Two suspects arrested for possession of ammunition

FREE STATE – The Police at Reitz together with Mangaung and Thabo Mofutsanayana Districts Tactical Response Team arrested two suspects in possession of ammunition at Petsana near Reitz.
On Thursday, 15 December 2022 the two young men visited initiation school in area of Petsana and it came to the attention of police coordinator of Initiation schools that the two were in possession of ammunition. The information was brought forth to TRT members who were busy with other tactical operational duties in the vicinity for assistance.
The team visited the certain identified house in Petsana where they searched and found six live rounds and seized the exhibit. The two have been charged and expected to appear before the Reitz magistrate court on Monday, 19 December 2022 facing charge of possession of unlicensed ammunitions.

Prayer day held in Polokwane to combat crime

POLOKWANE – A prayer day was hosted by the Polokwane SAPS with the objective to fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) on Thursday 15 December 2022 at Limpopo Mall.
The District Commissioner, Major General Mashilo led the campaign in support of the Station Commander of Polokwane SAPS Brigadier Makhura and the Station Commanders from the Capricorn District.
District Women’s Network Champion, Lieutenant Colonel Mokwena and Captain Maleka, Chairperson for Men for Change Forum in the Capricorn District were also in attendance.
Other external stakeholders who supported the campaign comprised of officials from the Department of Social Development and Correctional Service together with their Ambassador who made presentation about life in prison and the negative consequences of having a criminal record.
Mrs Mabotse Mothiba Community Safety Forum Chairperson, Mr Tahlego Modiba from SANCA and Mrs Carien De Beer, Limpopo Mall Manager gave words of support prior to the keynote address by Major General Mashilo.
Mob-justice, rape, fraud, hitchhiking, cyber-crime, hijacking, gender based violence and femicide were the main topics presented by Major General Mashilo.
The masses were blessed by a Senior Pastor of the Saint Engenas Zion Christian Church, Moruti Lesese who rendered a prayer sermon to combat crime and GBVF.
Lastly, the Saint Engenas Zion Christian Church Brass Band also entertained the masses with the melodies items during the event.

Police make their presence felt by drug peddlers

FREE STATE – The Public Order Police Units deployed in Qwaqwa have arrested two suspects in their 20s from Slovo Park and Hasethunya for dealing in dagga, possession of suspected stolen property and illicit drugs (nyaope) at separate incidences.
On Friday, 16 December 2022 at about 11:30 members received information from member of public about a suspected stolen laptop kept at certain house, Ha-Sethunya Village. The team approached the house, searched it and found dagga and laptop. Plastic bags containing dagga and cash were seized. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga and possession of presumed stolen property. He is expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court on Monday, 19 December 2022.
Meanwhile, other team members were on their way to Mandela Park Complex when they saw group of Nyaope addicts gathering at Scrapyard near Slovo Park. They informed police that they want to quit drugs.
At certain house Mandela Park the members arrested 24-year-old suspect in possession of 43 Nyaope sachets and cash found stashed inside the shoe. The suspect was arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. He will be expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court on Monday, 19 December 2022.

Man arrested for raping woman living with disability

FREE STATE – On 17 December 2022 at about 06:00, children came running to the complainant who resides at a hostel in Meloding and told him about an African man who entered the premises and instructed them to keep quite.
The complainant rushed to one of the rooms situated in the hostel and the suspect was found in the act, raping a 24-year-old woman living with disability. Meloding SAPS members were called to the scene of crime and the suspect was arrested for rape.
He is expected to appear at Meloding magistrate court on 19 December 2022.

Motorist to appear in court for culpable homicide and driving under the influence

POTCHEFSTROOM – A 66-year-old motorist is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 19 December 2022, for culpable homicide and driving under the influence following his arrest by members of Potchefstroom Flying Squad on Wednesday evening, 14 December 2022.
According to information, the police were informed about a white bakkie that collided with two cyclists in Forsman Street, Potchefstroom, but failed to stop. The police successfully traced the vehicle shortly after receiving the report, just as it was about to enter the suspect’s place. Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was found that it was damaged and had blood stains.
At the accident scene in Forsman Street, two victims were allegedly found of which one was certified dead by the Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics. The second victim was taken to a local hospital where he is still admitted in a stable condition.
The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug with a narcotic effect, culpable homicide and failing to stop after an accident.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt Gen Sello Kwena warned motorists to refrain from drinking and driving as the police and other law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act No. 93 of 1996) to ensure that those who transgress the law are dealt with accordingly as part of road safety management.
