Man stabbed to death by housemate

WINDHOEK: A 28-year-old man was allegedly found dead with multiple stab wounds in Katutura on Sunday.

A weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Sunday indicated that the deceased, identified as Denis Kaixob, was found at around 01h00.

It is alleged that the victim was involved in a fight with his housemate, a 26-year-old suspect, who found him with girlfriends in their living room. The suspect then allegedly stabbed Kaixob with a knife on the left side of his chest, arm, and cheek. Kaixob was declared dead at the scene by City of Windhoek paramedics.

The murder weapon was recovered from the scene, and the suspect was arrested.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed of his death.

In an unrelated case, a woman and her housemates were allegedly attacked and robbed by three unknown suspects on Friday at 22h30 at Long Island Street in Windhoek’s Rocky Crest residential area.

The victim was allegedly locking the entrance door of their home when she was attacked by the suspects, with
one being armed and the other holding a tyre lever.

The suspects allegedly dragged the victim to a bedroom, where the other housemates were found sleeping. They were then instructed to cover their faces with blankets as the suspects continued to steal four cellphones, four laptops, three wedding rings, a television set and a wallet with documents.

The suspects allegedly continued to ambush the owner of the house while he was parking his car in the garage, taking his cellphone, wallet and wedding ring.

No recovery or arrests have been made, and the value of all stolen items is yet unknown.

Police investigations continue for both cases.

Relentless Golden Bees put pressure on KK Palace in NWSFD title race

Golden Bees FC, seeking to return to the Debmarine Namibia Premier League, has put pressure on King Kauluma (KK) Palace after defeating Young Chiefs and Golden Bigs on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

The Outjo-based team maintained its grip on the Northwest Stream First Division League leaders, defeating opponents Young Chiefs (2-0) and Golden Bigs (2-0), putting pressure on KK Palace, who also defeated Oshikuku Young Stars (2-0) and Ongwediva City (1-0) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

An intriguing three-way title race that began with KK Palace, Eleven Warriors, and Golden Bees has evolved into a duel between KK Palace and Golden Bees, with both teams eager to declare their championship ambitions for next weekend’s final rounds of games.

KK Palace has 40 points, two more than Golden Bees – with only two games remaining, the championship race is now critical, as the two remain strong favourites to win the title.

The weekend results also saw the relegation of Otavi’s Touch and Go, who experienced do
uble defeats, first to Onambula United in a 3-1 thriller on Saturday, before bowing out of the league on Sunday with another 3-1 defeat to Khuse Lions.

Outjo Football Academy, Ongwediva City, Young Chiefs, and Oshikuku Young Stars are all still susceptible to relegation.

With two games remaining in the 2023/2024 season, Saturday’s fixtures brought challenging encounters, with Khuse Lions tearing Eleven Warriors’ aspirations of winning the league in a 2-0 defeat at Oshakati, and the revitalised African Motto also prevailing 1-0 over Ongwediva City.

Outjo Football Academy, determined to avoid relegation, defeated Golden Bigs 3-1 in Outjo, while Golden Bees beat Young Chiefs 2-0 and KK Palace overcame Oshikuku Young Stars 2-0. Onambula United crushed Touch and Go 3-0.

On Sunday, Outjo Football Academy drew 0-0 with Young Chiefs, Golden Bees triumphed 2-0 against Golden Bigs, and Ongwediva City lost 1-0 at home to KK Palace. Oshikuku Young Stars and African Motto shares the spoils following a goalless draw.

Onambula United lost at home to Eleven Warriors, before Khuse Lions defeated Touch and Go 3-1, increasing their prospects of finishing in the top four on the log standings.

Race for NPL in sight amid heated promotion battle in SSFD

The fight for a spot in the Debmarine Namibia Premier League is coming down to the wire, with four clubs vying for the top spot in the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) with just five games left.

Namibian Correctional Service FC presently leads the league after a string of triumphs, including a hard-fought 2-1 win against Davos in Windhoek on Sunday and a 4-1 victory over relegation-threatened Deutscher Turn-und Sportverein (DTS) on Saturday.

Blue Boys, a former Premier League contender, put considerable pressure on them for the league crown after winning back-to-back games against Black Africa (4-1) on Saturday and defeating Ramblers 1-0 on Sunday to cut the gap to NCS to two points.

Eleven Arrows are not far behind, trailing by 10 points to league leaders on 34 points, while Mariental Football Club is in fourth place with 32.

Anything is plausible now that the championship title is on the line, and any missteps by any of the top four teams might cost them the league over their opponents.

However,
Eleven Arrows failed to gather maximum points, collecting just four out of a potential six, reducing their chances of victory. The coastal outfit crushed Black Africa 4-0 on Sunday after drawing 1-1 with Ramblers on Saturday.

Mariental improved their title chances by defeating Oranjemund FC 3-1 on Saturday and Try Again 1-0 on Sunday.

Other Saturday outcomes featured two draws: Try Again and Dates Eleven drew 0-0, while Davos and Latinos tied 1-1.

Latinos hammered DTS 5-1 on Sunday, adding to their relegation woes, while Oranjemund, who are firmly in the relegation zone, suffered another setback, this time against Dates Eleven 3-1.

At the other end of the log standings, only five points separate ninth-placed Black Africa and 12th-placed DTS, leaving four clubs vying for a spot in the top stream division.

Ongos Ladies seal football league title in style

Ongos Ladies Football Club won their fifth straight league title over the weekend with spectacular goals over Okahandja FC and Namib Daughters on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

A magnificent 14-goal thriller over Okahandja (8-1) and Namib Daughters (6-0) was enough for the team formerly known as Tura Magic Ladies to secure the league in style, and as winners, Ongos Ladies will walk away with a whopping N.dollars 250 000.

Ongos Ladies have scored 88 goals and won 17 of 18 games on their way to the title.

They have yet to experience defeat.

Last year, First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) showed steadfast support by offering a three-season championship sponsorship of the Women’s Super League valued at N.dollars 7.5 million (N.dolars 2.5 million annually).

With only two games remaining in the league for certain clubs, the relegation battle is heating up as Okahandja and NUST Babes prepare to fight for their survival next weekend.

However, NUST Babes and Okahandja will be demoted if Ramblers collect maxi
mum points in all of their remaining encounters, putting them in a strong position to escape relegation.

The struggle for second place continues, with Beauties FC on 39 points and Galz and Goals on 36 points, with a three-point gap between them.

On Saturday, NUST Babes were thrashed by Ramblers Women by four goals to zero, exacerbating their relegation fears, while Khomas NamPol drew one-all with the tenacious UNAM Bokkies.

V-Power Angels upset Namib Daughters 1-0 on Saturday, with Ongos Ladies thumping Okahandja 8-1, and second-placed Beauties losing 3-2 to Galz and Goals in a five-goal thriller.

Arrows Ladies secured three crucial points with a 1-0 victory over Ongwediva Queens.

On Sunday, NUST Babes defeated Ongwediva Queens 2-1, Khomas NamPol upset Galz and Goals 1-0, and V-Power Angels lost 3-2 to Okahandja.

Ongos Ladies pulled another upset by scoring six unanswered goals as they defeated Namib Daughters.

Beauties and UNAM Bokkies drew 1-1, while Arrows Ladies fell 4-2 against Ramblers Women.

Lions Old Age Home gets revamped kitchen

First National Bank (FNB) Namibia through its FirstRand Foundation donated N.dollars 225 000 for the renovation of the kitchen at the Swakopmund Lions Old Age Home.

The recent unveiling of the renovated kitchen was combined with staff volunteerism and initiatives, during which some helped prepare meals for the elderly while others assisted those in the village’s Frail Care Centre.

FirstRand Corporate Social Investments Manager Revonia Job in an interview with the media said the donation is part of the foundation’s focus area and motto of giving back to the community.

‘It is important for us as a bank to take care of our senior citizens with the wisdom that they have, and we are really very happy to be associated with the Lions Club and the elderly home,’ she noted.

The donation included tiling, replacement of equipment and painting.

Secretary of the Lions Club Jonathan Wilsnach noted that the kitchen had not been renovated for the past 35 years and it had been the club’s long goal to get the renovations
done.

‘We are therefore very grateful that we have managed to accomplish that task with the help of the FNB Foundation. We have been busy with projects to try and raise funds to renovate this kitchen and a lot of work has indeed been put into this renovation and we cannot be more appreciative as we can now focus on other areas to improve at the old age home,’ he expressed.

Head chef at the home’s kitchen, Maria Seibes also expressed gratitude to FNB for the renovations, adding that the new equipment will now make food preparation easier and more efficient for her and the other kitchen staff.

There are currently 90 units at the centre, with over 200 elderly and frail care residents at the old age village.

MIT to develop infrastructure for street vendors

WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) has embarked on setting up infrastructure for informal traders.

Addressing micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) owners of the Moses ||Garoeb Constituency in Windhoek on Saturday, Minister of Industrialisation and Trade Lucia Iipumbu said the ministry has identified the need to upgrade and develop infrastructure of MSMEs and has budgeted N.dollars 4 million under the current financial year towards the Informal Economic Traders Platform Infrastructure Development programme.

She said MSMEs makes up 40 per cent of the country’s traders and therefore the ministry has committed towards budgeting for the upgrading of informal trader economic hubs.

‘We think we have done enough with industrial and SME parks, our focus now is on informal traders. We see many people are selling their products on the margins of the street and many of you are street vendors. So our focus is that each financial year we at least envisioned to give three main informal trad
ers space,’ she said.

She indicated that through the Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA) a total of 46 industrial and SME parks were constructed across the country.

Iipumbu further explained that the programme is done in collaboration with local authorities, noting that under the current financial year, infrastructure development will commence in Okalongo in the Omusati Region, Mariental in the Hardap Region and Henties Bay in the Erongo Region.

She explained a ministerial tour in City of Windhoek’s informal settlements during the COVID-19 era in 2020 identified that about 19 informal economic hubs need infrastructure development.

Also, she noted the ministry has the Industrial Upgrading and Modernisation Programme (IUMP) that offers free training on behavioural change, finance and equally assists traders with equipment between N.dollars 50 000 and N.dollars 400 000.

‘Everybody needs training, even you selling fatcakes. We came to realise that we need to train you on how to manage your finances.
We don’t want you to continue selling 20 fatcakes a day which will gain you a profit that is only enough for you to buy a 1kg maize bag, we want you to grow and think in terms of growth,’ she said.

Iipumbu also indicated that the ministry has revived in 2023 the Equipment Aid Scheme which was halted since 2016 due to budgetary constraints, which supports MSME owners with start-up equipment.
