24-Year-Old Suspect Remanded for Stock Theft Charge

Giyani: A 24-year-old male suspect has appeared before the Giyani Magistrate Court on Friday, 02 May 2025, facing a stock-theft charge. Mcdonald Nsovo Khoza, a resident of Nkowa-Nkowa Section A, was remanded in police custody, and his case was postponed until 13 May 2025 for a bail application and further police investigations.

According to South African Police Service, on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, at about 20:00, a 77-year-old male victim left seven goats inside his kraal and went to sleep at Mphagani village. The following day, he discovered that five goats were missing and reported the theft to the local police.

An immediate manhunt for the unknown suspects began, during which a Grey NP 200 bakkie was spotted by the police with four male suspects and the stolen livestock. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off, resulting in a car chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped, and three of the suspects fled on foot, leaving the driver behind.

The 24-year-old driver was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the origin of the five goats and was apprehended at the scene. The bakkie used in the crime was seized as evidence. The stolen goats, valued at R7,900, were later positively identified by their lawful owner and returned.

Police investigations are ongoing.
