Limpopo: A 27-year-old male suspect was apprehended during a joint anti-smuggling operation carried out by the Limpopo Tracking and Task Teams, alongside other police units and external law enforcement agencies. The operation took place on Friday, 30 May 2025, targeting a suspected drug trafficking route.
According to South African Police Service, intelligence information led the authorities to a white Toyota Hilux bakkie believed to be transporting dagga from Eswatini to the Vhembe District. Upon stopping and searching the bakkie, police discovered 42 bags of compressed dagga weighing 851.85 kilograms, with an estimated street value of eight million rands. The suspect, who failed to provide an account of the dagga’s origin, was arrested on the spot.
The Toyota Hilux bakkie and trailer, implicated in the crime, were seized during the arrest. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate Court on Monday, 02 June 2025, to face charges of dealing in drugs. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
