LIMPOPO: The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed approval of the 20-year imprisonment sentence handed down by the Modimolle Regional Court to a 67-year-old male for raping a 13-year-old girl.
According to South African Police Service, the sentencing follows the incident where the accused raped a 13-year-old at Phagameng location in the Modimolle policing area on 04 March 2023. The victim’s aunt had sent her to her uncle’s residence in the same area. Upon her arrival, the uncle threatened the child and forced her into his bedroom, where he raped her.
The crime was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The case was then assigned to Warrant Officer Frances Kruger, who is part of the Modimolle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit, for further investigation.
Following a thorough investigation, the accused was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the
crime of rape. Lieutenant General Hadebe commended the investigating officer and other involved parties for their efforts in ensuring justice for the victim.
