Accused remanded in custody for pavement robbery

MPUMALANGA – Dumisani Sibiya(34) was remanded in custody by the Tonga Magistrate Court on Friday, 13 May 2022, after he was arrested by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime investigation based in Nelspruit and Tonga Crime Intelligence on Thursday 12 May 2022 for pavement robbery in Tonga area Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that on Saturday 09 May 2022 at about 14:50 Fidelity AV arrived at Horn Africa General dealer in Tonga, to collect cash money when they were surprised by five armed suspects who shot the driver and robbed the crew 9mm Noringo pistol. An undisclosed amount of cash was also robbed and the suspects ran through the back side of the shop while shooting randomly and fled the scene.

Information was received of the whereabouts of the suspect and warrant of his arrest was authorised and executed hence his arrest. During the search at the suspect`s place a Toyota Hilux single cab which match the description of one of the vehicles which was used by the suspects during the robbery was recovered , fitted with false registration number plate.

The accused remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 23 May 2022 for formal bail application.
