Acting District Commissioner Commends Sentencing of Former Port Alfred Commander

Port Alfred: The Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo, has expressed approval following the conviction and sentencing of a former station commander.

According to South African Police Service, on Friday, 9 May 2025, at the Port Alfred Regional Court, former station commander of Port Alfred, Colonel Ncamisa Donkrag, was convicted and sentenced on two counts of fraud. The charges stemmed from her guilty plea to defrauding the South African Police Service (SAPS) on two separate occasions. In May 2022, she falsely claimed travel using her private vehicle from Port Alfred to Port Edward, eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff), Mzamba, the Wild Coast, and back to Port Alfred, obtaining a reimbursement of R 8,062.58.

In a second incident, she falsely reported traveling from Port Alfred to Zwelitsha, Addo, and back in September 2022, resulting in a reimbursement of R 4,705.25. The court combined the two counts for sentencing. Colonel Donkrag received a five-year imprisonment sentence, wholly suspended for five years, contingent on avoiding further convictions of theft or fraud during the suspension. She was also ordered to repay the SAPS a total of R12,767.80.

Brigadier Naidoo remarked, “This sentence will serve as a deterrent to those who may be tempted to commit similar offences. Such an outcome reflects that no matter what position one holds in the SAPS, nobody is above the law.”

He added, “SAPS is expecting all its employees to always serve with diligence and honour. The investigative work by the Anti-Corruption Unit is commendable, and we urge members to continue with their work to fight against crimes such as fraud and corruption.”
