Air Botswana launches new routes connecting Windhoek to Botswana


WINDHOEK: Air Connect Namibia has announced the launch of new Air Botswana flights connecting Windhoek to Maun, Kasane and Gaborone, with the latter service connecting on to Durban, South Africa.

The new routes, commencing in October 2024, mark a significant enhancement in regional air connectivity, fostering stronger ties between Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, Air Connect Namibia said in a statement.

Bisey /Uirab, Air Connect Namibia Chairperson and CEO of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), in the statement said Air Botswana will begin a three-times-per-week service linking Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone to Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek on 01 October 2024.

The route will continue to King Shaka International Airport in Durban, with flights operating on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, creating a new link between Botswana and Namibia’s capitals, as well as expanded access to South Africa’s third-largest city.

He noted that following this, on 01 November 2024, A
ir Botswana will introduce additional services connecting Maun International Airport and Kasane International Airport to Hosea Kutako International Airport.

Both routes will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. These connections will open up access from Windhoek to two of Southern Africa’s premier tourist destinations – the Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park, the statement said.

‘NAC and Air Connect Namibia are extremely happy about the new routes that connect Windhoek with various destinations in Botswana. The commencement of these air routes is a culmination of sustained engagements at all levels of government and business to strengthen political, diplomatic, and business relations between our two sister countries,’ /Uirab said.

Air Connect Namibia, established in 2024, is led by the NAC and is a collaborative air service development initiative mandated to improve air access to Namibia.
