Cape town: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Chief Executive Officer, Themba Matlou, has called for an all hands-on deck approach to assist beneficiaries that have been identified for review in the August grant payment cycle. This comes as the agency is working to enhance operations at local offices to ensure that beneficiaries are not severely inconvenienced when they present themselves for social grants review in the coming days.
According to South African Government News Agency, Matlou emphasized the necessity of a coordinated effort, stating, "We are intent in our drive to assist all our clients to have their grants reviewed as seamlessly as possible, so that no one leaves our offices without being assisted and being burdened with back and forth." He urged everyone, especially at the senior level, to be actively involved and present on the ground to assist the clients.
Executives and senior managers have been asked to be visible to clients and ensure that enquiries regarding the fourth payment date are addressed promptly and professionally. Matlou acknowledged that the ongoing social grants reviews have highlighted the agency's operational challenges and reinforced the need to address issues that have arisen in recent months.
The SASSA grants payment dates have been set for 5 - 7 August 2025. While most payments are expected to proceed without issues, Matlou stressed the importance of preventing any delays that could affect vulnerable individuals. He reiterated that social grant reviews are crucial for safeguarding the government fiscus, ensuring that grants are paid only to eligible beneficiaries, and maintaining the system's integrity.
Matlou also encouraged beneficiaries to not be alarmed and to participate in the review process, which also allows for updating personal details for improved communication. Beneficiaries affected by the review are advised to visit their nearest SASSA office with necessary documentation, such as a valid South African ID, proof of income, bank statements, proof of residence, and any other relevant documents.
