Alleged Murder-Suicide Shocks Mogwase Community

MOGWASE: The Mogwase police are delving into an alleged murder-suicide incident after two bodies were discovered in the veld at the Lotwane Section in Ramokokastadt. The bodies, identified as a man and his girlfriend, were found by local residents, prompting an investigation into the tragic events.

According to South African Police Service, the discovery was reported on Monday morning, December 30, 2024, at approximately 07:00. Community members passing through the area stumbled upon the bodies, with the female victim found naked and bearing lacerated stab wounds on her neck. Her clothing and underwear were discovered about 30 meters further into the bush. Meanwhile, the male body was found hanging from a tree, about 20 meters from the female victim, with a rope around his neck.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple, identified as 38-year-old Khumo Moatshe and 26-year-old Kefilwe Mosane, were previously cohabiting. However, Mosane had reportedly moved out the week prior due to domestic violence. On the night of the incident, Moatshe allegedly called Mosane to collect one of their children, stating that the child was crying and needed her mother. This call was reportedly the last time Mosane was seen alive.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has strongly condemned the incident, labeling it a grave manifestation of domestic violence. He urged the community to seek professional guidance to address such issues rather than resorting to violence. Major General Asaneng also offered his condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.

The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, hoping to shed more light on the sequence of events that led to this shocking occurrence.
