Kei bridge: AMATHOLE District concluded Women’s Month with a significant operation named Operation Basadi in the Kei Bridge area, focusing on crime prevention and community safety. The operation, held on Friday, 29 August 2025, included a roadblock on the N2 near Kei Bridge, leading to notable arrests and fines.
According to South African Police Service, during the roadblock, two individuals aged 34 and 38 were apprehended for violating the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. Traffic Officers, who collaborated in the operation, issued fines totaling R52,300 to motorists who failed to adhere to traffic regulations.
As part of their crime prevention strategy, the team extended their efforts to nearby villages, conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns. These campaigns aimed to educate the community on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), Sexual Offences, and crimes against the elderly. The operation also included stop-and-search activities and inspections of liquor outlets, leading to the closure of two non-compliant establishments. Liquor was confiscated, and the owners, aged 25 and 35, were arrested.
The operation underscored the South African Police Service’s commitment to enhancing safety and security by addressing issues that impact community well-being.
