Pretoria: The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced an adjustment to the toll tariffs effective from 1 March 2025. The tariffs will see an annual increase of 4.84%, as detailed in the Government Gazette published on 7 February 2025, which is a decrease from last year’s adjustment rate of 6.25%.
According to South African Government News Agency, SANRAL’s General Manager for Communications and Marketing, Vusi Mona, emphasized that the toll revenue plays a crucial role in maintaining, operating, and improving toll roads. It also helps service the debt incurred in toll road projects. Mona stated that the funds are vital for SANRAL to fulfill its mandate of providing quality road infrastructure, which in turn adds value to the lives of South African citizens.
Mona further highlighted the significance of key economic infrastructure, such as the national road network, which is essential for delivering basic services like electricity, water, sanitation, telecommunications, and public transport. “This road network therefore needs to meet industrial, commercial, and household needs,” he explained. Despite the current economic challenges faced by the South African public, Mona noted the importance of these tariff adjustments to ensure the continued delivery of safe and quality roads for all users.
SANRAL operates under the Department of Transport and continues to focus on enhancing the road infrastructure across the nation.
