Anti-Corruption Unit Apprehends Matthews Kujane for Alleged Corruption.

Schweizer-Reneke: 38-year-old Matthews Kujane was granted R1000-00 bail upon appearance in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 07 November 2024, for corruption. Kujane, a Labour Relations Officer at the Department of Education, was arrested by members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) on Tuesday, 05 November 2024.

According to South African Police Service, Kujane allegedly called and set up an appointment with an educator under investigation for alleged misconduct. The meeting, which took place on Friday, 25 October 2024, involved Kujane introducing himself as the Investigating Officer. He reportedly solicited a bribe from the educator to dismiss the misconduct allegations. The educator offered R5000-00, which Kujane accepted.

Unbeknown to Kujane, the educator reported the bribery attempt to the ACIU. This led to his arrest during an undercover operation. Kujane is scheduled to make a second court appearance on Wednesday, 11 December 2024.

The Provincial Police Co
mmissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, praised the ACIU members and other collaborators for their efforts in making the arrest. He emphasized that this case serves as a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated.
