Western Cape: As part of the Safer Festive Season programme, members of the Anti-Gang Unit have intensified operations into gang activity over the holiday season. Yesterday ( 19/12/2018, they embarked on a tracing operation that saw 12 suspects arrested for an array of crimes ranging from defeating the ends of justice to murder and attempted murder. The suspects were arrested in areas such as Manenberg, Delft, Elsie’s River, Ravensmead and Phillipi.
In another operation, the AGU worked through the night following a shooting incident believed to be gang related that occurred off the N1 highway on the Plattekloof off ramp where one person was killed and two injured. In the early hours of this morning in an intelligence driven operation they descended on an informal settlement behind the airport in Phillipi and arrested eight suspects including a police official. A vehicle with spent cartridges linked to the shooting incident on the N1 was seized. The suspects between the ages of 18 and 48, were wanted on other serious cases. They will appear in court soon. Meanwhile the Unit continues with its operations at identified locations throughout the province
