Anti-Gang Unit’s Targeted Operations Lead to Major Drug Arrests in Eldorado Park and Freedom Park

Johannesburg: The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) has successfully arrested several suspects in a series of operations conducted on Friday, 2 May 2025, and Saturday, 3 May 2025, in Eldorado Park, Freedom Park, and surrounding areas. These operations resulted in the confiscation and seizure of various illegal substances, including crystal meth and mandrax tablets.

According to South African Police Service, on Friday night, AGU members acted on credible information that led them to an address in Freedom Park, where they arrested a male suspect found in possession of five ziplock bags of crystal meth, along with three full mandrax tablets, three half mandrax tablets, and fourteen quarter mandrax tablets. This arrest marks a significant step in curbing the distribution and sale of illegal drugs in the various communities.

The AGU team continued their diligent efforts, leading to the arrest of another male suspect late Friday night in Freedom Park. He was found with four packets of suspected crystal meth and one and a quarter of mandrax tablets.

This morning, while conducting stop and search operations in Eldorado Park, AGU members discovered a male individual in possession of twelve ziplock bags of suspected crystal meth and four mandrax tablets. The operations extended to Eikenhof, where a further arrest was made. A male suspect was found with twenty-six bags of suspected crystal meth, eight mandrax tablets, and six packets of dagga.

All suspects are currently detained at various local police stations and are expected to appear before their respective courts soon.

Brigadier Maphoto, Commander of the Anti-Gang Unit, praised the team’s ongoing commitment to crime fighting. “Our relentless efforts in upholding law and order are yielding positive results,” he stated. “We are actively combatting crime and addressing its root causes, particularly those stemming from the manufacturing, sale, distribution, and use of illegal substances. I commend our members for their dedication and responsiveness to community tip-offs.”

Residents are urged to continue collaborating with, and providing tip-offs regarding illegal activities to the SAPS. A crime-free community begins with all of us.
