Moroccan King’s Speech on Western Sahara Ignores Algeria Accusation

RABAT, MOROCCO — Morocco’s King Mohammed gave a speech Saturday about Western Sahara but made no mention of an Algerian accusation that Morocco targeted Algerian civilians in an incident last week that the United Nations said took place in the disputed territory.

Algeria’s accusation has raised fears of further escalation between the North African rivals after Algeria cut off diplomatic relations, stopped supplying gas to Morocco and blocked Algerian airspace to Moroccan flights.

Ties between the countries have been fractious for years, but have deteriorated since last year after the Algeria-backed Polisario Front said it was resuming its armed struggle for the independence of Western Sahara, a territory Morocco sees as its own.

King Mohammed’s silence on the dispute with Algeria in his annual speech on Western Sahara is in line with Morocco’s practice since soon after Algeria broke off ties in August in ignoring all statements coming from Algiers.

However, Algeria’s accusation Wednesday that Morocco had killed three civilians driving in the Sahara on Monday has sharply raised the stakes.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune vowed in a statement that the death of the three men “would not go unpunished.”

Morocco has not formally responded to the accusation.

The U.N. peacekeeping force in Western Sahara, MINURSO, visited the site of the incident in territory outside Moroccan control and found two badly damaged Algerian-plated trucks, a U.N. spokesperson said on Friday. The spokesperson said MINURSO was looking into the incident.

Last year the United States recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara as part of a deal that also included Rabat bolstering ties with Israel.

Morocco has been more assertive since then in pushing European countries to follow suit. However, they have not done so, and in September a European Union court said some European trade deals with Morocco were invalid because they included products originating in Western Sahara territory.

King Mohammed said on Saturday that Morocco would not agree to “any economic or commercial step that excludes the Moroccan Sahara.”

Launch of the Community in Blue: Francis Baard District

NORTHERN CAPE – The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Joey Kers, Acting DPC Brigadier Janse van Rensberg, Provincial Head for Vispol Brig Brink, Acting District Commander Brig Charlotte Makgari, Galeshewe Station Commander Brig Belinda Rikhotso, Deputy Director Mr Manamela for Community Safety Dept of Safety and Liaison, Francis Baard CPF Chairperson Mr Themba Gomba and station commanders in the district launched the Community in Blue at Kimberley Police station.

In delivering a message of support Mr Gomba emphasized that Community in blue are not substituting the role of the police but their role is to assist the police by being their eyes and ears on the ground. Mr Gomba called on CPF members to at all times work with the police and refrain frombeating up suspects. He pledged to serve the community with respect and support victims of crime and also support the SAPS in the fight against crime. Mr Gomba said that there’s a tendency by community members who think that working with the police gives them authority to do as they please and request members of the Community in blue to refrain from searching and stopping vehicles as they do not have the authority to do so.

The representative for Community Safety at Safety and Liaison Mr Manamela welcomed the launch of Community in Blue and said the launch came at a time when the police need them more. He said that the launch came at the time when the country is gripped by the upsurge of Gender based Violence and the mushrooming of vigilante groups in Francis Baard, Tsantsabane, Siyancuma and Namakwa. Manamela emphasized that Community in blue is a regulated structure under the auspices of the CPF.

Mr Manamela adviced the community in blue members to at all times work under the guidance and command of the police and not operate alone. He discouraged members to act like a vigilante group and assault and terrorise community members in the name of the CPF. He emphasized that Community in blue is a substructure of the CPF and therefore do not operate autonomously from the mother body is which the CPF.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Kers in delivering the keynote address welcomed the launch of the Community in Blue and said that they are a necessary force multiplier as they are the eyes and ears of police. General Kers said that members of the Community in Blue are community volunteers affiliated with the CPF and in partnership with the police and are therefore expected to act professionally when executing their patrol duties.

General Kers said that no crime can be solved without information and most of the information comes from communities as criminals come from communities and are our own brothers, sisters and uncles.

Major General Kers called on members of the Community in blue to exercise a high level of discipline in executing their duties, act professionally, be honest, transparent and dedicated.

General Kers took the opportunity to call on police officers to take care of state resources as the state does not have an endless supply of resources.

The session was closed by Brig Brink who wished all members of the CPF and Community in blue well and said that the fight against crime needs the commitment of all of us as police and the community.

LONGi issues its first White Paper on Climate Action at COP26 summit

In 2020, LONGi joined the RE100, EV100 and EP100 in succession, becoming the first Chinese company to join all three initiatives of the Climate Group at the same time. According to its white paper, LONGi is actively fulfilling its commitments and promoting the implementation of the four international initiatives. New partnership will allow Indonesian mobile operator to bring personal cloud services to a market of more than 170 million subscribers

Office of the Provincial Commissioner Mpumalanga

MPUMALANGA – Today, the Police in Mpumalanga, in Mhala are investigating a case of murder after an unknown man was found dead in an unused government building in Dumphries B.

At around 8 o’clock in the morning members received an anonymous call informing them that there was a person who was assaulted to death in an unused government building in Dumphries B.

Police responded swiftly and upon arrival they found an unknown man who was handcuffed and had bruises all over his body in the garage. He is a well-built (muscular) African male with a Mohawk haircut, trimmed beards, wearing a brown trouser, a white T-shirt and Adidas push-in shoes. He is estimated to be between the age of 30 and 40.

The building is used as a mobile clinic. The preliminary investigation reveals that he was assaulted by sticks, panga and stones.

All role players were summoned to the scene and he was certified dead. The motive is unknown at the stage.
