Suspect arrested in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE- Police in the Western Cape send a stern warning that they will continue to clamp down on those who are involved in criminal activities.

On Friday 06 August 2021, members of Operation Lockdown II responded to valuable information received and immediately operationalized their strategy. The team proceeded to an identified shop on the corners of Station and Kleinbegin street in Belmont Park, Kraaifontein. An intensive search followed upon which a 9mm Star Pistol with ammunition was found hidden in a box inside the shop. The 25-year-old man was arrested and detained.

Once charged he is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Police urge Gender Based Violence victims to act and not protect abusers

GQEBERHA – As the country mark Women’s Month celebration, the prevalence of Gender Based Violence in our communities are growing therefore as a collective we all need to rise to the occasion and end gender discrimination in all its ugly ways.

The South African Police in Gqeberha are urging women to seek help before it’s too late and to walk away from tumultuous relationships. This appeal comes after a 38-year-old male was fatally stabbed while embroiled in a physical altercation with his pregnant girlfriend.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 7 August 2021 at a house in Sweden Street in Timothy Valley between 21:00-21:30, Loyiso Kulela (38) was arguing with his fiancé (25) about food. The argument intensified into a physical one where Kulela sustained a fatal stab wound on his left shoulder and subsequently bled to death prior to receiving any medical attention. The fiancé who is about four months pregnant was taken to hospital for medical attention.

She is not arrested and a murder case is under investigation.

Fighting GBV must always remain a priority and police appeal to communities to act, not look away and not to protect abusers instead to report them before there are any loss of life.

Police seek assistance to locate missing Yandiswa Maajhekeza

WESTERN CAPE – Brackenfell police are seeking the assistance of the public in locating 40-year-old Yandiswa Maajhekeza of Bloekombos in Kraaifontein.

According to reports he was last seen by a co-worker on Monday 02 August 2021 in Brass street in Brackenfell, wearing a black jersey, navy jeans and a pair of takkies. Yandiswa is approximately 1, 85 metres tall with short hair and a black moustache. He has gold crowns in his teeth.

Anyone who can assist with information that can lead to locating Yandiswa, is urged to call the Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Raymond Saville on 084 468 9894.

SAPS Bothasig commemorates Women’s day 2021 and launch purple roll project

BOTHASIG – On Friday 06 August 2021, members from SAPS Bothasig partnering with Cedar Spar Bothasig and SAPS Brackenfell, paid a surprise visit to the studios of Bok Radio in Brackenfell.

The aim was to commemorate the upcoming Woman’s Day and to launch the Purple hamburger roll project which is currently in its third year, whereby awareness against gender based violence against women is raised. The project is a partnership between SAPS Bothasig and Cedar Spar Bothasig whereby a limited amount of purple rolls are produced and sold by Cedar Spar in order to locally raise awareness regarding crimes against women.

At Bok Radio, the surprised staff were spoilt with packets containing fresh purple rolls as well as awareness pamphlets covering topics such as domestic violence, gender based violence and sexual offences. SAPS Brackenfell added to the mix when the communications officer, Capt Erica Crous, handed out awareness pamphlets which had lollipops attached to it. All the recipients were amazed by the kind gesture and thanked SAPS for looking out for them, and Cedar Spar for the rolls.

A while later the purple rolls were also made available to the public at Cedar Spar in Bothasig. At the store awareness pamphlets on domestic violence and sexual offences were also available to clients visiting the bakery. Store manager Janice Scrimgeour mentioned that Cedar Spar always enjoyed partnering with SAPS Bothasig with awareness campaigns, especially ones as important as the safety of females.

Police are investigating a case of kidnapping and assault GBH of six a year-old-child

LADY FRERE – Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating a case of kidnapping and assault GBH.

Police received information of a 6-year-old child who was kidnapped and assaulted by her aunt at Cacadu A/A.

Police quickly responded by following the information and found the child tied with a rope. The child had sustained injuries on the whole body.

The child was then taken to Glen Grey Hospital for treatment and the suspect will be arrested soon.

Media Invitation: Police Minister Meets Lamontville residents following attack on police and death of a civilian during police operations in the area

KWAZULU-NATAL – Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele will on Sunday 08 August 2021, host a community engagement in Lamontville in KwaZulu-Natal.

This meeting with residents, follows the death of a female civilian during police operations to retrieve looted goods in the area.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death.

During the same incident, police officers conducting the seizure operations, came under attack from community members who allegedly mobilised each other and blocked the exit points to the township with stones and proceeded to slash the tyres of the police vehicles and attacked the members.

Minister Cele on Wednesday 04 August 2021, met with the Lamontville community leadership structures who requested for a broader engagement between the SAPS and the Police Minister to address their policing concerns, following the death of the 33-year-old community member.
