Final salute for Brigadier Maphunya Piet Mametsa

POLOKWANE – The late Provincial Head of Financial Management and Administration in Limpopo Province, Brigadier Maphunya Piet Mametsa was today laid to rest during an official funeral that was held at his home village of Mathibela in Sebetiela policing area outside Lebowakgomo.

The funeral was attended by the Divisional Commissioner of Financial Management Lieutenant General Dimpane, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Corporate Services, Major General Christine Morakaladi, Major General Molatjana from the DPCI, senior officers, members and personnel of the South African Police Service.

The funeral commenced with a prayer by Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Mahlangu. Various speakers paid a tribute about the departed colleague, uncle, friend, relative, neighbour and a loving father.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Hadebe paid tribute and expressed her condolences to the family, “We are extremely saddened by the untimely death of Brigadier Mametsa especially as he was about to retire at the end of August this year. You are not alone and we will always keep you in our prayers for the lord to give you comfort and love. Finally, may his soul rest in peace”.

Delivering the eulogy on behalf of the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service General Khehla Sitole, Lieutenant General Dimpane said, Brigadier Mametsa was as a disciplined, professional, dedicated and a mentor in the organisation. He had a passion to serve the society with pride and was also a loving father and husband. He will always be remembered for the professional manner in which he went about doing his work.

Chaplain, Luitenant Colonel Mahlangu rendered a spiritual sermon and benediction as the funeral service concluded.

Lebowakgomo SAPS seeks missing man

LEBOWAKGOMO- The South African Police Service in Lebowakgomo have launched a search operation for a missing 26 year old man, Marvin Abram Mnisi from ga-Chuene Maratapelo village following his disappearance on 04 May 2021.

It is alleged that he went to Polokwane and didn’t return home. He was wearing grey work suits written “Bapuleng”.

Police search operation was conducted at relatives and places he frequently visited without success.

Lithium batteries worth thousand of rands recovered

NORTHERN CAPE – A clandestine operation dubbed- Operation O which has been running since November 2020, which involved the installation of solar systems and the utilization of stolen equipment led to the recovery of numerous lithium batteries.

Preliminary investigations led the collective team which included Col Johan Myburgh, the Frances Baard District Detective Coordinator and W/O Henk van der Merwe in the Northern Cape, DPCI Southern Cape and Bidvest Protea Coin BTS division to various business premises in Mosselbay and George.

The collective team conducted search and seizures actions in Mosselbay and George from 26 until 28 May 2021 during which they recovered cellphone tower batteries belonging to Vodacom and MTN.

126 Batteries, 8 Lithium-ion and 118 lead acid batteries with a collective value of R908 400-00 were recovered at various premises.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Johan Bean applauded the collective team as well as Col Myburgh and W/O van der Merwe for their contribution and participation in the investigation of the case.

Young Adolescents in Europe to Get Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine

Britain has confirmed yet another spike in new COVID-19 infections, with close to 4,200 cases identified across the country Friday, the highest daily number in two months.

Seventy five percent of the new cases in Britain are believed to be infections with the so-called Indian variant, first detected in India, which is more transmissible than the previously dominant variant.

Also Friday, Britain approved a single-shot COVID-19 vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson. It is the fourth COVID-19 vaccine approved in the country, after inoculations made by Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Moderna.

The European Commission has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children as young as 12, widening the pool of those eligible to be inoculated, following similar approvals in the United States and Canada.

The commission made the announcement Friday after the European Union’s medical regulator, the European Medicines Agency, Friday recommended the use of the vaccine in children ages 12 to 15, saying that data show it is safe and effective.

“Extending the protection of a safe and effective vaccine in this younger population is an important step forward in the fight against this pandemic,” said Marco Cavaleri, the EMA’s head of health threats and vaccines strategy.

It is now up to EU states to decide whether and when to offer the vaccine to young adolescents.

Germany and Italy have already said they are preparing to extend their vaccination campaign to youths ages 12-15.

French President Emmanuel Macron pledged Friday to help provide South Africa and other African countries with vaccine doses. During a visit to Pretoria, Macron said France would donate more than 30 million doses this year to the United Nations-backed COVAX global vaccine initiative.

According to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, South Africa has so far vaccinated roughly 700,000 people out of its population of 40 million.

In Australia, Melbourne went back under lockdown on Friday, as health authorities said a cluster of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases had increased to 39.In other developments Friday, India reported 186,364 new coronavirus infections during the previous 24 hours, its lowest daily rise since April 14. Deaths rose from the previous day to 3,660.

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said children at summer camp who are not vaccinated do not have to wear masks outside unless they are in crowds or in sustained close contact with others. The new guidance comes as millions of children are set to resume summer camp this summer after the closure of many camps last year due to the virus.

Americans are celebrating the start of the Memorial Day weekend by hitting the roads and skies as they seek to cast off more than a year of pandemic restrictions and try to resume a sense of normalcy.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas urged Americans to be patient this weekend at busy airports.

“People will see lines because there’s going to be a tremendous amount of people traveling this weekend,” he told ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday.

SAPS needs assistance in tracing missing woman

FREE STATE – The family of a missing 67-year-old woman, Miss Makgala Nelly Sibanyone, needs assistance in finding her back home safe. She went missing on Monday 17 May 2021 at about 13:00.

She was last seen leaving home, 1527 Ntsonga Street Thabong with his boyfriend intending to go to the local clinic. She never returned home until today.

Her boyfriend also said they separated ways after leaving home as he attended to his own errands. She was wearing a black and white dress which goes up to her knees and blue slippers on the day of her disappearance.

She has a medium body, medium height with a black afro hair that is brushed back. According to the family she has episodes of being mentally unstable.

The search for her by members of Thabong SAPS has been under way but all in vain. We request community members to assist with this search for Miss Makgala Nelly Sibanyone also known as Diaba.

ST, RAMSEM open first African sorting lab

NAVASOTA, Texas, May 28, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Global livestock semen sorting leader and innovator Sexing Technologies® (ST) has partnered with pioneering livestock artificial insemination company RAMSEM to establish Africa’s first semen sorting lab.
