The carcass of a female black rhino was discovered Monday on a private game farm situated in the Grootfontein district in the Otjozondjupa Region.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Unit Commander for Community Affairs in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa today said the poaching happened on Monday at an unknown time on the farm.
“The suspects had secretly entered the hunting and tourism game farm at unknown time, where they shot and killed a female pregnant black rhino for its horns,” said Mbeha.
Its two horns valued at N.dollars 100 000 were removed, and a case of hunting specially protected game has been opened at the Otjituuo Police Station in the same district, Mbeha said.
Ballistic investigations were conducted on the animal, and so far no arrest has been made in connection with the matter but further police investigations continue.
