Brazilian National Arrested at OR Tambo Airport for Cocaine Trafficking.


Johannesburg: A 25-year-old Brazilian national has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport for drug trafficking. He was discovered with over three kilograms of drugs wrapped around his body, which authorities later confirmed to be cocaine, carrying an estimated street value of R1.8 million. The arrest occurred shortly after the suspect arrived from São Paulo, Brazil. He is scheduled to appear in court soon.

According to South African Government News Agency, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking at OR Tambo International Airport, arresting at least 14 drug mules over the past two months. This surge in arrests includes a consistent pattern of at least one arrest per week during this period.

Among those apprehended recently was a 21-year-old South African woman, who became the 11th individual detained for drug trafficking at the airport. Police intercepted her upon her arrival on a flight from São Paulo. Subsequent medical examinations, including a
n X-ray at a local hospital, revealed the presence of foreign objects in her stomach, further indicating involvement in drug smuggling activities.
