Ouagadougou: Industrial gold production in Burkina Faso, estimated at 56.85 tonnes of gold in 2023, made it possible to mobilize 529.25 billion FCFA for the benefit of the state budget, compared to only 8.91 billion FCFA in 2008, according to official data from the Ministry of Mines.
‘These performances were achieved thanks to an improvement in the legal framework, in particular the adoption of law n°36-2015/CNT of June 26, 2015 relating to the Mining Code of Burkina Faso and its implementing texts,’ according to the ministry in charge of Mines.
Despite these already notable contributions, the Burkinabè National Assembly adopted last night a brand new mining code for better supervision of the sector of exploitation and marketing of gold and precious metals.
The new mining code, considered ‘revolutionary’ by certain social actors, notably obliges international mining companies to open their capital to Burkinabe investors and to participate in the constitution of the national gold reserve.
Likewise, the leg
al participation of the Burkinabè State in the capital of mining companies increases from 10% to 15%, the State further reserving the right to recover its priority dividend in kind or in cash, by ” any means’
