Ekurhuleni:Cabinet condemns the alarming rise in gender-based violence and femicide in the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, Gauteng, where the number of women brutally murdered has increased from nine to thirteen. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with three of these murders and remain in custody, having been denied bail.
According to the South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa has directed a Multi-Disciplinary Investigation Team led by the South African Police Service to expedite the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for these crimes. The team is actively pursuing several persons of interest.
Cabinet emphasizes the need for a societal response to protect women and urges law enforcement to ensure that perpetrators face the full force of the law. The government is committed to promoting the security and well-being of women and children and encourages anyone with information about such crimes to report it to the authorities.
