Call for Entries: South African Journalists Invited to Participate in SADC Media Awards

Johannesburg: South African journalists are invited to submit their entries for the 2025 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards competition before the deadline next month. The competition is open to journalists from the SADC Member States.

According to South African Government News Agency, the SADC Media Awards were established in 1996 to recognise media work that effectively disseminates information on SADC, supporting regional co-operation and integration. The awards aim to promote regional integration and cooperation by recognising excellence in journalism in print, photo, television, and radio, and encouraging media practitioners in member states to cover regional issues.

The first prize winners will receive their prizes and certificates on the margins of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in August 2025. The first prize winner in each category receives US$2,500, while the runner-up receives US$1,000.

Journalists interested in entering the competition can find more information on the competition at www.gcis.gov.za. Entry forms are available at https://www.gcis.gov.za/sites/default/files/docs/SADCEntryform2025.doc, and the rules of the 2025 competition can be accessed at https://www.gcis.gov.za/sites/default/files/docs/SADC2025RulesCompetition.pdf.
