The head of a local think tank raised concern over the failure of the government to acknowledge a serious problem in employment—one in three Filipinos without jobs. Police detain suspects for the possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to reduce the circulation of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition, secured the arrest of three suspects on Thursday, 05 May 2022.

Kuilsrivier police members were busy with patrols near to Sylvia Street in Kalkfontein, Kuilsriver when they noticed a suspicious Volkswagen Polo. As the patrol vehicle approached, the driver sped off, with police in pursuit. The vehicle was stopped and upon searching the occupants and the vehicle, they confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. Two males aged 46 and 49 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile Manenberg police responded to information and proceeded to a premises in Tagus Road. Upon searching the occupants, they found a man in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The 27-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs and Athlone Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
