Assistance sought by Nsuze police

DURBAN – Nsuze police are appealing to the community for assistance with any information regarding an unidentified body which was found under the Nsuze bridge between the boundary of Mwandla and Nyuswa in Ngcongangconga area.

A case of murder was opened at Nsuze police station. The body of the unknown male believed to be between 14 and 17-years-old was found on the morning of 28 May 2021 with a bullet wound on the forehead. He was wearing a tiger vest, grey jeans, no shoes with (traditional muthi) arm belt on both sides.

Missing person sought by Chatsworth FCS Unit

DURBAN – Chatsworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are appealing to members of the community with regards to a missing teenager Njabulo Bekwa who is 16-years-old. He was last seen on 23 May 2021 when he left from his home at Welbedatch West in Chatsworth. He was last seen wearing short pants, sandals and a grey hooded jacket. He is medium in complexion and is medium built. The reason for his disappearance is unknown.

Gang member in court for illegal possession of firearm, drugs and suspected stolen property

GQEBERHA – A 25-year-old gang affiliate appeared in the Gqeberha magistrate court this morning on multiple charges after being arrested by Flying Squad members on Sunday afternoon, 30 May 2021.

It is alleged that at about 15:45, Flying Squad members responded to information received about suspicious activity of a gang member driving in a maroon Datsun Go with no registration plates. The vehicle was spotted in Military Road in North End and when the suspect noticed the police vehicle, he jumped out and started to run. He was apprehended and on searching him, a firearm was found on his waist as well as 3 packets of tik and cash. The Datsun Go however sped off.

The suspect was detained on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition as well as illegal possession of drugs. The firearm was reported stolen in a robbery in January 2021 in Motherwell.

Cheslin McCabe remains in custody until his next court appearance on 08 June 2021.

Foetus found at dumpsite: Gqeberha

GQEBERHA – A foetus of a baby was found this morning at a dumpsite in Missionvale.

It is alleged that at about 09:00 garbage pickers at the Missionvale Road dumpsite found the foetus wrapped in a blanket.

A case of concealment of birth will be investigated by SAPS Algoa Park detectives. Anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or may have information that can assist police in their investigation, is asked to contact Detective Warrant Officer Errol Kleinhans on 082 302 6419 or SAPS Algoa Park on 041 401 1061 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.

Couple granted bail after appearing in court on holiday scam charges

DURBAN – Megasen Roland Chetty (38) and Sarasvathi Belinda Pillay (47) appeared before the Durban Magistrates’ Court on 28 May 2021 for charges of fraud. They were each granted a bail of R5 000-00. The matter was remanded to 7 July 2021 in the Durban Magistrates’ Court.

Their court appearance follows a string of fraud cases that were committed since February 2018 until October 2019. The suspects were positively linked to 14 counts of fraud that they had committed at different areas like Chatsworth, Phoenix, Malvern, Town Hill, Tongaat and other areas. Their modus operandi was to promise people to secure discounted holidays abroad and locally. The total amount of cash that was defrauded is R900 000-00. The dockets opened were transferred to the Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. On the morning of 28 May 2021, the suspects were arrested and they have appeared in court.

We are also appealing to other people who are victims of the similar scam to contact the investigating officer Constable Durugiah on 082 334 8454.

Alleged Phoenix drug dealer remanded in custody

KWAZULU-NATAL – Cameron Hiralall (26) appeared at the Verulam Magistrates’ Court today, 31 May 2021 for drug-related charges. On Saturday, 29 May 2021 Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence and Durban Metro Drug Team arrested Hiralall for dealing and possession of drugs in Phoenix.

Members received information about a suspect who was dealing in drugs on Avalen Crescent in Phoenix. A joint operation was then conducted and the suspect was intercepted whilst driving an e-hailing services vehicle. He was searched and police found heroin capsules. He was then taken to his place of residence where a further search was conducted and more heroin capsules were recovered. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at R600 780-00.

He was remanded in custody until 02 June 2021 for a formal bail application. Further investigation into his alleged drug dealings is continuing.
