1043 Suspects arrested for various crimes during police operations in Gauteng over the weekend

PARKTOWN – Over 1043 suspects were, over the weekend rounded up by the police in various high density operations conducted across all five districts in Gauteng. Among those arrested are twenty-two drunk and driving suspects arrested in Daveyton, twenty were arrested for being in the country without proper ducumentation. Five suspects were arrested during the raid and closing of liquor outlets on Saturday 29 May 2021 in Daveyton during Operation O Kae Molao led by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela and other law enforcement agencies.

In Sedibeng District and Ekurhuleni over 390 suspects were arrested during the weekend operation. Among the arrested suspects 12 were arrested for drunk and driving while a number of illegal liquor outlets were closed and liquor confiscated

During the early hours of Saturday, 29 May 2021, another team pounced on the shops in Johannesburg CBD where counterfeit goods with an estimated value of R2.5 million were seized and suspects. A total number of 200 suspects were arrested in Johannesburg District.

Meanwhile, over 157 suspects were nabbed in the West Rand Districts by integrated law enforcement agencies for various offences that include driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Furthermore in Tshwane District over 287 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, theft, robbery, rape and other serious and violent crimes during the multidisciplinary operation conducted over the weekend.

Seven firearms were recovered during the operations and these will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish possible linkage to other crimes.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the respective courts across Gauteng Province in due course.

Zastron police station temporarily closed for decontamination

FREE STATE – The community served by Zastron SAPS is advised that the police station is temporarily closed due to a Covid-19 related case.

The CSC will operate from the Station Commander’s house in Nr.40 Hoofd Street, Zastron next to the police station. For emergencies and/or enquiries the following numbers can be used:

The station will undergo decontamination and affected members will be subjected to necessary Covid-19 related protocols.

The community will be informed once the police station is operational.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane and management wishes to assure the communities that services will not be hampered during closure of police stations and apologises for any inconvenience that may arise.

Police arrest a man after divers retrieve a body from a water canal

THEUNISEN – A 30-year-old man has been taken into police custody for an alleged murder which occurred on a farm in Theunissen on Sunday, 30 May 2021 at about 11:50.

The body of a male victim, identified as Ditsebe Lesotho, was retrieved from a water canal by police divers after police were summoned to the crime scene. The lifeless body of the deceased was found wrapped with a blanket and tied with wires to the trolley that was allegedly used to drag him from the house, the scene where he was killed.

Upon closer inspection, police discovered that the male sustained an open wound on the head and a knife was stuck on his hip. A hammer, suspected to have been used as a murder weapon, was found and confiscated by police at the scene from where the body was dragged with a trolley.

The suspect, whose acts were witnessed by one of the community members, was apprehended and handed over to the police. A case of murder was opened for further investigation.

A 30-year-old suspect was arrested and will be charged for murder. He will appear at the Theunissen Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 01 June 2021.

Body of a missing woman found

HENNENMAN – An inquest docket has been registered for further investigation after the body of a woman, who was identified as Makgala Nelly Sebanyone (67), was found on a farm in Hennenman on Sunday, 30 May 2021 at about 11:15. She was reported missing on 17 May 2021.

The body was found in a decomposed state in a bushy area under a tree and was positively identified by a family member.

A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Amathole District police arrest more than 50 suspects over the weekend for various crimes

EASTERN CAPE – Police embarked on operation Vuthu Hawe over the weekend in ensuring that our citizens are safe and secure and perpetrators of crime are sent behind bars for the crime they committed.

The Vuthu Hawe operation is an ongoing crime prevention operation in ensuring that perpetrators that break the law are arrested and our citizens are safe and secure. More than fifty (50) suspects aged between 27 and 52 years were arrested for various crimes committed in the areas. SAPS members were busy with patrols, stop and search, raiding and closing illegal shebeens and apprehended suspects on crimes ranging from drunken driving, possession of a hijacked vehicle (quantum) consuming alcohol under Disaster Management Act Regulations, possession of drugs, rape, murder and possession of stolen property.

In a separate incident Police followed an information they recieved about males that stole livestock from a farm in Bell policing area. Police arrested three suspects linked to the Stock Theft where fourteen heifers and six cows were stolen from a farm. On investigation Police recovered two heifers and other cows were allegedly sold and slaughtered.

These suspects will appear at various Magistrate Courts within Amathole District tomorrow.

The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu appreciated the job done by members in ensuring that the perpetrators are behind bars. “This shows great sense of the SAPS mandate to create a safer and secure environment for all and ensure that we fight the stock theft and perpetrators are arrested” he added.

Suspect arrested for possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunition in Atlantis

WESTERN CAPE – Members attached to Atlantis SAPS Crime Prevention were conducting stop and search operations in Magnet Circle, Atlantis when they noticed a male person standing under a light pole. When approached, the suspect ran away but was apprehended and found to be in possession of a Smith and Wesson .38 Special Revolver and ammunition.

The firearm was not reported as stolen, but the person found to be in possession thereof was not the legitimate owner. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in Atlantis Magistrate Court on Monday, 31 May 2021, on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In an unrelated matter, on Friday, 28 May 2021 at about 20:30, Elsies River police arrested a suspect who was caught cutting Telkom underground cables on the corners of Liedeman Street and Old Stellenbosch Road.

Whilst patrolling the Elsies River area they received a complaint of fighting in Clarke Estate. Upon arrival at the scene it became evident an unknown male person was allegedly trapped inside a manhole. Fire and Rescue services was requested to free the unknown male who was subsequently freed and lifted to safety but found to be in possession of 56 metres of Telkom cables hidden in a huge bag.

The 31-year-old male suspect was arrested and detained on charges of tampering with-, damages or destroying of essential Infrastructure at the Elsies River SAPS and once charged will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate Court

On Friday 28 May 2021, at about 08:45, Manenberg SAPS members were conducting Crime Prevention duties, when they noticed a male person, standing on a corner. They approached and searched him and was found to be in possession of 17 sachets of Methamphetamine.

The 25-year-old male was arrested and detained at Manenberg Police SAPS and will appear at Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday, 31 May 2021, on a charge of possession of drugs.
