Suspects facing charges in court

WESTERN CAPE – Members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Hanover Park to restore order in the area due to the ongoing gang violence arrested a 23-year-old male in Etosha Court in the early hours of Saturday morning when he was found in possession of a 38 special revolver. The members were busy with crime prevention operations when they stopped and searched the suspect and found the firearm in his possession.

The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on Monday to face the charges against him.

In an unrelated matter members of the Breederiver K9 Unit arrested two adult females for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in De Doorns on Saturday afternoon. The members received a complaint of a truck driver that was pointed with a firearm and responded to it. The vehicle was stopped and searched and a 9mm pistol with ammunition was found hidden between the seats.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Worcester Magistrates court.

Meanwhile Western Cape detectives arrested 442 wanted suspects during tracing operation on charges related to murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, burglary and sexual offences.

The police management in the Western Cape thanked the members for their vigilance and hard work especially with the festive season that is dawning upon us.

SAPS Mount Road seek next of kin of unknown woman

GQEBERHA – SAPS Mount Road detectives are seeking the communities’ assistance in tracing the next of kin of a woman who was found on the M4 freeway on Saturday morning, 29 October 2022.

It is alleged that on the mentioned date at 06:20, police attended to a complaint of a body of an unknown woman that was lying on the side of the road on the M4 Settlars Freeway, North End. The woman had visible injuries, however no one could provide any information, relating to her death. 

A case of culpable homicide was opened and will be investigated.  

Anyone who can assist in tracing the family of the deceased or may be able to identify the deceased or can furnish any information relating to her death, is asked to contact SAPS Mount Road on 041 394 6243 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station or send information via MySAPS App. All information received will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

Suspected hitman nabbed with firearm

DURBAN – This morning at 03:00, the King Cetshwayo District Crime Intelligence and Essential Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) conducted an intelligence driven operation at Nhlabane Reserve in KwaMbonambi where they were searching for a suspect that is wanted for various crimes including murder.

Investigations revealed that the suspect is working as a bodyguard for a businessman. His firearm was subjected to ballistic testing to determine if he is linked to cases of murder that were reported recently.

During the operation the 36-year-old man was searched and found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and was detained at KwaMbonambi SAPS. He will appear before KwaMbonambi Magistrate Court on Monday 31 October 2022.

Missing 15-year-old girl sought

GQEBERHA – SAPS Kwazakele are searching for a missing 15-year-old girl, Siphosihle Kolisi. According to her family the school transport dropped her off at Kenako Mall on 26 October 2022 after school. She was wearing school uniform, which was a navy dress, blue blazer, black pantyhose and black shoes.

She never returned home and the family has not seen her since then. She was reported missing to SAPS Kwazakele today.

Robbery suspects nabbed in Richmond

DURBAN – On 21 October 2022, an operation was put in place by Thornville Detectives and Magma Security after information was received regarding suspects that were sought for a house robbery.

The information led the team to Richmond where four suspects were traced and arrested.  A search was conducted and three riffles, seven cellphones, liquor worth R7 000-00, bank cards, a rifle safe, clothing and a vehicle that was used in the robbery was seized by police. Four suspects aged between 20 to 42 were arrested for robbery and are appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today.

It is alleged that on 15 October 2022, the complainant was at his farm with his family in Thornville when they were robbed by six men. The house was ransacked and the suspects stole a safe with rifles, cash and bank cards. A case of house robbery was opened at Thornville SAPS.

HRP 2022 Monitoring Dashboard GBV AoR West and Central Africa region

Situation Overview

6.9 million people estimated in need of humanitarian assistance for Protection-GBV in the West and Central Africa region in 2022. 70% of these people in need were targeted for humanitarian response plan 2022. A total of US$ 138.7 million required to deliver GBV life-saving assistance and protection to 4.8 million people across the 7 countries including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Mali, Niger and Nigeria in the region which have developed Humanitarian Response Plans, only 8.9 per cent of the required funds were met.

Despite funding shortfalls and operational challenges, humanitarian partners assisted 33 per cent of the targeted population. More than 1.6 million people were reached with 202300 Women and Girls including male reached by Specialized GBV services/GBV Response , 68486 reached with GBV Risk Mitigation &Dignity kits/security or hygienic Kits distribution, 891729 reached with GBV Awareness raising & Sensitization , 9035 on Economic and Social empowerment activities, 5213 on Training and capacity-building activities. Mains challenges raised across countries are low coverage of intervention areas by specialized GBV services, critical need to scale up lifesaving GBV services and advocate for access to reach affected communities
