Durban: The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is set to host a critical dialogue with the Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities at its KwaZulu-Natal provincial office in Durban. The meeting, scheduled for Monday, aims to discuss various programs the CGE is implementing in the province.
According to South African Government News Agency, the engagement will pave the way for a week-long committee oversight into service delivery areas intended to address gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and its intersectional recovery programs. The portfolio committee plans to assess the provision of services for victims and survivors of GBVF.
The committee will also engage with institutions offering services to young women and adolescent girls, focusing on access to sexual reproductive health rights and education. There will be a special emphasis on sanitary dignity pads and addressing learner pregnancy, as outlined in a statement by the Commission.
Additionally, the commission’s research report titled ‘School Dropout of Adolescent Girls during Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period: Policy Dialogue’ will serve as a foundation for increased engagement based on its findings and recommendations from the oversight visit.
