The Omicron variant that was first discovered in South Africa spread like wildfire in many countries late last year. It has shown to be more transmissible than the Delta variant. Thus, the outbreak of Omicron variant spurred the latest wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic across the world. The United Kingdom, France, Germany and other European Union (EU) states as well as the United States (US) and the Philippines re-imposed stringent measures.
