Crime prevention operations yield positive results

Western Cape police through crime prevention operations arrested several suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs.

On Friday evening members of the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in the Ocean View area due to ongoing gang shooting in the area and searched a premises in Cederberg Street, Ocean View and recovered a pistol with ammunition. A 28 year old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court once he has been charged.

Members of Operation Restore arrested a 29-year-old male in Lotus Park, Gugulethu on Friday evening at about 23:00 for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The members received information about a firearm at a premises and searched it and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. Further investigation led the members to an address in Zone 7, Samora Machel where 30 mandrax tablets and 40 small packets crystal meth were found on the premises. A 2-year-old male was arrested and detained. A second premises was searched and a 29-year-old male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. A pistol with ammunition was confiscated.

The suspects will make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates court on Monday.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, 2022-08-13 members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit searched a premises in St Bernard Crescent, St Montague Village and arrested an adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members searched the premises and found a black firearm with ammunition in possession of the suspect.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
