Deputy Minister Visits Family of Alleged Sexual Violence Victim in Ipelegeng Township

Pretoria: Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, emphasized that the era of sexual predators freely roaming the streets should be over. He made this statement during a visit to the family of a seven-year-old girl who was reportedly raped in Ipelegeng Township, Schweizer Reneke in the North West province.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Deputy Minister expressed relief that an arrest had been made following the report of the incident in December 2024. He stressed the importance of ensuring that such predators no longer pose a threat to the community. Morolong voiced his concerns over the police’s initial inaction in a case that involved a violation of a child’s rights, labeling the alleged crime as both barbaric and diabolical.

Morolong is set to discuss his concerns and findings with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, particularly addressing the need for improved responsiveness from law enforcement. Additionally, he plans to engage with the Minister of Social Development to secure psychosocial support for the victim and her family.

During his visit, Morolong was joined by the Provincial leadership of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO), which included Provincial Chairperson Tshepo Khoza and Provincial Secretary Mogomotsi Mosheshe. Together, they also visited the Ipelegeng police station to address the handling of the case.
