Harare: Deputy President Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile is set to participate in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government in Harare, Zimbabwe. Representing President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Republic of South Africa, Mashatile will attend the crucial meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Summit aims to address several pressing issues, including an update on the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Attendees will also consider a report on the SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC) and review the mandate to guide the mission’s future, which is set to expire on 14 December 2024. The Presidency highlighted South Africa’s pivotal role in contributing to the SADC Mission, underscoring its commitment to promoting peace and security in the region.
The Summit’s agenda is extensive and will be preceded by the Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit plus SADC Mission in the DRC (S
AMIDRC) Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs). This preliminary meeting is scheduled for Wednesday morning and will lay the groundwork for the subsequent discussions among the SADC Heads of State and Government.
