Deputy President Mashatile to Strengthen South Africa-Japan Relations in Tokyo Visit


Tokyo: Deputy President Paul Mashatile will on Sunday undertake a working visit to Tokyo, Japan. The Presidency stated that the visit, scheduled from March 16 to 19, 2025, aims to reaffirm the strong cooperation between South Africa and Japan in areas of mutual interest.



According to South African Government News Agency, the visit marks a significant milestone as 2025 commemorates 115 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. This working visit by the Deputy President highlights South Africa’s strong commitment to and the importance the country places on its relationship with Japan. During the visit, Deputy President Mashatile and his delegation are set to engage with Japanese government and private sector stakeholders to promote South Africa’s key economic growth drivers, including manufacturing-led growth and boosting South Africa’s exports.



The Deputy President will be joined by a distinguished delegation, including Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Tandi Moraka; Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie; Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane; Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen; Trade Industry and Competition Minister, Parks Tau; and Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister, Nomalungelo Gina.
