DFFE Extends Nomination Deadline for Interim Industry Advisory Committee

Pretoria:The Waste Management Bureau has announced an extension to the deadline for nominating suitable candidates for the Interim Industry Advisory Committee (Interim IAC).

According to South African Government News Agency, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has stated that the submission deadline for nominations has been extended to 30 days following the publication of the notice in the Government Gazette. This extension applies to the call for nominations initially published in Government Gazette No. 54907, Notice R.7636, on June 26, 2026.

The Interim IAC is responsible for advising on governance and operational matters related to the management of waste tyres, pending the approval of a new Industry Waste Tyre Management Plan under the National Environmental Management Waste Act, 2008. The Bureau oversees South Africa’s waste tyre sector and End-of-Life Tyres, funded by a national tyre environmental levy.

The extension comes as a result of insufficient responses to the initial call for nominations, which the department deemed inadequate for forming the Interim IAC. Nominations should be submitted in accordance with the requirements outlined in the extended Government Notice.

Individuals who have already submitted nominations are not required to resubmit. For further details or inquiries, contact Mr. D Vukela via email at [email protected] or by phone at 076 178 9263.

The DFFE adheres to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013, and any objections to the public release of names in the comments and response report should be clearly stated in the submitted comments.
