Durban: The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in collaboration with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, is set to host a Group of 20 (G20) Town Hall Outreach event on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. The event will focus on the theme ‘Financial Inclusion for Economic Development: Creating Access to Benefit Grassroots Economies.’
According to South African Government News Agency, the upcoming event in Durban marks the fourth instalment of the DIRCO-UNISA G20 Town Hall Outreach series. The initiative began on 14 May 2025 in Pretoria, Gauteng, followed by a session in August in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, and a recent gathering last month in Cape Town, Western Cape.
The advisory for the event highlights South Africa’s G20 Presidency as a crucial period for influencing global dialogues and promoting economic development. It emphasizes the strategic opportunity for advancing changes in global governance and working towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
The department notes that financial inclusion is increasingly acknowledged as an essential element of the global economic framework. It plays a significant role in poverty eradication, fostering equitable growth, and ensuring social stability. The advisory further states that in a globalised economy, financial inclusion can reduce inequality, enhance resilience, and support sustainable development.
