Johannesburg: Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, has called for an investigation into the tragic collapse of a building in Doornkop, Johannesburg. The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a child, and left three others injured and hospitalized.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) has been tasked with investigating the cause of the collapse. They are expected to identify any responsible parties and recommend actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Minister stressed that the investigation will be both thorough and transparent, conducted in full cooperation with relevant regulatory bodies.
Minister Macpherson expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and injured. He emphasized the commitment of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to accountability and safety in the construction sector. Macpherson assured that all necessary measures will be taken to enhance safety and oversight to protect workers and the public.
