Karim Adeyemi is making headlines after scoring his first hat-trick in Dortmund’s 7-1 victory over Celtic in the UEFA Champions League, earning a reputation as a talented yet unpredictable star stepping into the spotlight.
“I have learned my part. It took a while. I must admit not all my first-season halves have been convincing,” the 22-year-old said.
Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, remarked, “I see him do things with more willingness and determination.”
In the recent eight games for BVB, Adeyemi has been involved in ten goals, scoring five goals for Germany’s under-21 team against Israel and Estonia. This streak suggests a turn for the better, even though a muscle injury sustained in the Celtic match is forcing Adeyemi into a break of unknown length.
Adeyemi’s spirits were high following Dortmund’s second win in the 2024/25 Champions League. It seemed the perfect moment for a light-hearted comment, as the Borussia attacker shared one of his secrets to success, humorously attributing his sc
oring spree to a homemade meal.
Carrying the match ball signed by his teammates and the “Man of the Match” trophy, Adeyemi credited his performance to his wife’s cooking. “It must be the broccoli my wife cooked the other day,” he joked.
The broccoli seems to have had an immediate impact, as Adeyemi became the first German player to score three goals in 45 minutes in a Champions League match since Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich achieved the feat against Napoli in 2011.
Unsurprisingly, Adeyemi’s standout performance has caught the attention of top European clubs, with media reports suggesting Liverpool is eyeing him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who may leave next year.
Currently, Adeyemi appears to have settled in Dortmund. “I know it takes more to gain consistency, but as I said, I have learned a lot and I’m on my way to doing things differently,” he said.
Intense training seems to be a key component of Adeyemi’s development in this new phase of his career, and it appears to be paying off –
regardless of whether the broccoli played a role in his success.
