Pretoria: The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), in collaboration with the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, is set to officially launch the Strengthening Ethics, Integrity and Green Governance (SEIGG) project this afternoon. The initiative aims to reinforce ethical governance practices within South Africa's public administration.
According to South African Government News Agency, the launch will be spearheaded by DPSA Acting Director-General, Willie Vukela. The SEIGG project is a five-year initiative running from 2025 to 2030, funded by Global Affairs Canada and executed by Cowater International, with a budget exceeding R50 million. This project builds upon the foundation laid by the Strengthening Ethics and Integrity Project (SEIP), which had previously established the Public Administration Ethics, Integrity and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit (PAEIDTAU).
The primary objectives of SEIGG include enhancing accountability, efficiency, and transparency within public administration. The project focuses on combating harassment, including sexual harassment, improving ethics and disciplinary management, and preventing procurement corruption. Special attention is given to addressing these issues within the climate change and energy sectors.
The launch event will convene government officials, international partners, and civil society organizations to commemorate the beginning of the project's implementation phase. It also serves to reaffirm the commitment between South Africa and Canada towards promoting good governance and tackling corruption.
