Duo arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

In an effort to remove illegal and unlicensed firearms from the streets, the police arrested two men for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On 21 October 2021, the Ekurhuleni Municipality Police Department was conducting patrols in Zone 4 when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle with two occupants inside.

They immediately stopped and searched the vehicle and the two occupants. A 9mm pistol, with a filed off serial number was found loaded with live rounds.

The duo aged 27 and 32 years were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm will be subjected to a ballistic examination to determine whether or not it was used in the commission of any other crimes.

The Station Commander applauded the members for a job well-done. “I commend the members for the good work they have done. They have probably saved lives of innocent people,” said Lieutenant Colonel Risenga Albert Chauke.

The suspects are expected to appear in Palmridge court soon.
