ZWELITSHA: Friday, 1 July 2022 was not an ordinary day with the SAPS family in the Eastern Cape as the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene conferred the ranks to four newly appointed senior managers in the presence of SAPS management that displayed jovial mood as they welcomed the new appointees. The well-attended ceremony took place at SAPS Provincial Headquarters in Zwelitsha.
Lieutenant General Mene was proud to appoint and confer ranks to Major Generals since she stepped into office as a Provincial Commissioner.
She conferred ranks to the following senior managers:
– Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, appointed as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing
– Major General Rudolph Adolph, appointed as the District Commissioner for Chris Hani
– Major General Phumzile Cetyana, appointed as the District Commissioner for OR Tambo and
– Major General Vuyisile Ncata, appointed as the District Commissioner of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The appointed senior managers resumed official duties in their respective offices as from 1 July 2022.
The Provincial Commissioner welcomed the new appointees, and described the filling of vacancies and appointment of critical positions in the organisation as the most significant achievements in management. She further indicated that the appointment would close gap in the system. “….. They are appointed to close identified gaps in the system and respond to, and address crime challenges confronting the Province during our time.” – she said.
Lieutenant General Mene urged Provincial Senior Management and respective station Commanders to support the newly appointed senior managers in the fight against crime, and creating safer Eastern Cape. “I wish to urge all of you colleagues sitting here to support these Generals in whatever way you can.”- she urged.
The SAPS management sang songs of praises as they welcomed the newly appointed Major Generals as they took the stage to receive their new ranks from the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner.
The Eastern Cape SAPS Chaplaincy had an opportunity to join the newly appointed officers on stage to bless them for the road that lies ahead and the new challenges that they might face.
The occasion was graced with a number of stakeholders who rendered messages of support. The stakeholders included Department of Transport, Department of Community Safety, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and labour unions.
As part of the proceedings, tokens of appreciation were handed over Mrs Marx, in respect of her late husband, Captain Pierre Marx who lost his life in the line of duty while saving people’s lives in floods early this year. Representative from Department of Community Safety, Mr Zukile Kani handed over the token of appreciation on behalf of the Eastern Cape Premier, Mr Oscar Mabuyane, followed by Lieutenant General Mene who handed over another token of appreciation on behalf of the South African Police Service. They both consoled the wife of the late hero.
