Electricity outage at Okahandja attributed to faulty transformer

The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) on Monday attributed the power failure at Okahandja to a faulty major transformer at the town.

Cenored Public Relations Officer, Charlie Matengu, in an interview with Nampa said the power failure affected the entire town, all households, businesses, schools, farmers and tourism accommodation facilities.

Matengu explained that the power outage was noticed by Cenored around 12h00 on Sunday.

“The electricity failure is continuing to affect over 8 000 individual clients of Cenored, and this is due to a NamPower major transformer on the 11 kilovolt power line which supplies Cenored electricity, that it also uses to distribute to residents,” said Matengu.

On her part, NamPower Corporate Communications Officer Rosa Nikanor on Monday said teams of NamPower technicians were on site trying to investigate and identify the exact technical faults on the transformer.

The technicians are working on fixing the problem and restoring power to the town as soon as possible, she said.

NamPower further apologised to the affected customers for the inconvenience the power outage is causing in the area.
