Embrace your culture, says Mbumba

President Nangolo Mbumba has called on Namibians to embrace their national culture and heritage, as it is an important tool for augmenting social cohesion, peace and unity.

Mbumba made the remarks during the official opening of the third Ehao Cultural Expo on Wednesday, saying globally, there is a growing understanding that culture and heritage increasingly play an important role in nation building by combating marginalisation and fostering inclusivity, and economically by producing creative output, employment and generating tax.

Additionally, he indicated that culture has proven to be effective in improving the overall well-being and health of cultural participants as well as consumers.

‘It is through initiatives like the Ehao Cultural Expo that we can proudly declare Okahao as the ‘Home of Rich Heritage’. Our heritage is a treasure that must be protected and preserved for future generations,’ he said.

The Head of State added that it is essential for the youth to understand and appreciate where they come
from, as people cannot value and care for what they do not know.

At the same time, Mbumba stated that cultural preservation and economic development must go hand in hand to ensure progress and innovation.

King of the Ongandjera, Johannes Mupiya emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and order in Namibia to ensure that the country flourishes.

He also indicated that traditional leaders have the responsibility to preserve their culture and maintain peace in the country for the future generation.

The expo started on Monday and will conclude on Friday. It is being held under the theme ‘Embracing Business Activities through Culture and Innovation’.
