eThekwini Municipality Launches Transport Month Initiatives

Durban:The eThekwini Municipality is set to implement a variety of road safety campaigns, community engagements, and public transport activations throughout October to mark Transport Month.

According to South African Government News Agency, these activities are part of a national campaign that emphasizes the significance of an efficient transport system in linking people to jobs, services, and economic opportunities. The municipality's initiative aims to promote safer road use, enhance awareness among commuters and pedestrians, and provide information on the city's integrated public transport plans.

Community road safety campaigns are scheduled in Inanda, Ntuzuma, and KwaMashu on Wednesday, and in Umlazi on October 21, focusing on engaging residents about responsible road use and road safety improvements. Additionally, pedestrian awareness campaigns will occur at strategic locations such as Berea Centre, the Workshop Precinct, Mega City, and Toti Mall.

The eThekwini Municipality stated that these activations are designed to encourage safer pedestrian behavior and create awareness of the shared responsibility of all road users in minimizing accidents and enhancing mobility.

To bolster public transport, GO!Durban roadshows will be conducted across various regions, including Greater North, Durban Central, Durban West, South 1, and South 2. GO!Durban represents the municipality's vision for an Integrated Public Transport Network, and the roadshows will inform communities about its benefits, including improved connectivity and access to opportunities citywide.

Taxi rank activations will occur in the Durban CBD, Isipingo, Mega City, and Pinetown, delivering transport-related information and services directly to commuters. Additional activities for the month include the Vehicle Operating Company Establishment Stakeholder Event, the launch of the Razo mascot, and the soft launch of GO!Durban later in October.

The municipality's efforts aim to promote safer roads, enhance public transport awareness, and highlight the role of transport in creating a connected, inclusive, and economically thriving city.
