Foreign National Arrested for Possession of Suspected Stolen BMW and Fraud at Beitbridge Port of Entry


BEITBRIDGE: A foreign national was arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry for possession of a suspected stolen BMW and attempting to pass with fraudulent documents. The incident occurred on December 31, 2024, when authorities intercepted the vehicle, which was reportedly wanted by a South African bank.



According to South African Police Service, the driver, a 40-year-old foreign national, was attempting to cross from South Africa into Zimbabwe at approximately 20:10. The individual, who held a South African passport, was driving a 2023 BMW G70, 7 Series valued at over R2 million. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was sought after by a bank in South Africa, raising suspicions about its ownership.



The driver claimed that the actual owner of the vehicle would be arriving in South Africa by flight on January 1, 2025. Despite this claim, authorities proceeded with the arrest, charging the individual with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and providing fraudulent documents to the South African Police Service. The vehicle was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.



Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Province, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers for their vigilance and commitment. She emphasized that the arrest was a result of increased security measures and the deployment of additional personnel during the festive season. The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate Court on January 3, 2025.
