Committed to root out crime in their area, members of Darling police sprang into action when they learnt of a house robbery which was perpetrated in the adjacent poling precinct, Malmesbury last night. At around 20:15 armed suspects held a 34-year-old man and his family at gunpoint in Slivertown, Malmesbury and fled with household goods and the victim’s vehicle. The information regarding the house robbery was broadcasted on the police radio, which prompted the Darling police members to search their area. The stolen vehicle was spotted and stopped in Soutdam Road. The four male occupants aged between 25 and 33 were arrested in possession of the stolen property and an unlicensed firearm. They are expected to make their court appearance in Malmesbury on Monday, 5 July 2021.
In an unrelated police investigation, armed robbers are being sought after they perpetrated a robbery at a retail store in Zevenwacht, Kuilsrivier yesterday. Members of the Flying Squad who reacted to the robbery were led to Makhaza in Khayelitsha where the stolen goods valued at about R100 000-00 were recovered in an abandoned shack. The vehicle used in the robbery, a hijacked VW Polo was also recovered, while arrests are yet to be made.
