Four injured in train accident at Onathinge

Four people sustained injuries on Friday when their vehicle reportedly failed to stop at a railway crossing on the Onathinge/Onayena main road and collided with a train.

According to the region’s Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, the incident occurred around 22h00 on Friday when the driver of the silver Amarok with Oshakati registration, driving from Onayena to Onathinge, failed to stop at the railway crossing.

Ekandjo said the driver’s 32-year-old wife sustained a knee injury, while a 27-year-old man sustained head injuries. A four-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy who were in the vehicle also sustained various injuries. They were all taken to the Onayena Health Centre and are in stable condition.

None of the occupants of the train – the 46-year-old driver and two passengers – were injured.

No arrests have been made and police investigations continue.
