Gauteng Government Initiates Comprehensive Road Rehabilitation Campaign

Mogale city: The Gauteng Provincial Government has launched a campaign aimed at rehabilitating key mobility corridors, enhancing road safety, and improving service delivery capacity across all municipalities. "We are on a campaign to fix Gauteng's roads and restore service delivery at the pace and scale our communities expect," stated Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, during a major road maintenance activation in Mogale City. According to South African Government News Agency, the initiative focuses on critical routes such as Magalies Road, which is a priority corridor in Mogale City. This strategic route is essential for connecting communities, supporting businesses, enabling tourism, and facilitating freight movement across the West Rand. The planned works in Mogale City include resurfacing, patching, rehabilitation of sinkholes, restoration of streetlights and traffic signals, and stabilization of slope failures caused by excessive rains. The Gauteng Department of Roads and Tran sport has significantly ramped up its maintenance capabilities, allowing for more efficient responses to road surface failures, storm damage, electrical faults, and other infrastructure needs. "Our increased maintenance capacity means we can now meet our road repair targets not only in Mogale City but in every municipality across Gauteng," Diale-Tlabela elaborated. The campaign underscores the importance of road maintenance in enhancing road safety. By addressing potholes, fixing signals, and restoring lighting, the government aims to reduce crashes and create safer conditions for all road users. The department plans to continue rolling out maintenance activations across Gauteng in the coming weeks as part of its ongoing infrastructure improvement program.
